Tunnel of Oppression

Updated: Mar 31, 2019

On March 25th, the "Outside" team attended the Tunnel of Oppression presented by UNCG's Intercultural Engagement Center. The interactive event highlighted the similarities and differences of oppression in the 1960's and present day. The event was separated by three categories: race, immigration, and gender and sexuality. The gender and sexuality section showcased information on the struggles that were faced in 1969 at the Stonewall Riots compared to the recent Pulse shooting. The tunnel began and ended with asking how we define oppression. Within thirty minutes our understanding of oppression was expanded upon. As we left the event we asked, how is this connected to Daniel? Well,"Outside "deals with the oppression faced by Daniel as he discovers his sexuality and the challenges that arise from this.

So, how do you define oppression?
