Exploring Space

Updated: Apr 11, 2019

To better understand the world of "Outside" the cast took a field trip to the set of lockers upstairs to explore the scene where Jeremy confronts Daniel after he is shoved into a locker. This scene shows the anxiety of everyone watching as one walks down the hallway and the possibility of one's peers verbally or physically harassing them. It also showcases Jeremy's challenge, should he risk being seen talking to Daniel?

After, we went into the men's restroom so Parker could play his monologue in the bathroom in front of an actual restroom mirror. The mirror scene shows the intensity of the moment a restroom becomes an escape and the joy and terror of realizing and accepting that he is gay. Rehearsing these scenes "onsite" were helpful reminders that "Outside" involves realistic circumstances that happen to many of us in school.
